Please Bring your Favourite Christmas Card

We Look Forward to Seeing You All

Dear ICA members

As you know, we have been accepting submissions for the upcoming ICA Book of Christmas. A huge thank you to all those who have submitted entries to date. We still have a few gaps to fill to make this the best representation possible of all that an Irish (and ICA) Christmas can be.

For this reason we are extending the deadline for final submissions to Monday 16th February. Please send your contributions to the ICA offices (by email if possible, or by post) and please include:

  • your name,
  • your Guild,
  • contact details (telephone number(s) AND email where possible)
  • plus a few words about yourself, as per The ICA Cookbook eg ‘Marie McGuirk, Louth: Cookery tutor and aspiring golfer’.)

See below for suggestions of the kind of Christmas-related submissions we are still seeking. Please note: if sending collectively from a Guild, try to include the names of who submitted what so that we can attribute fully.

Details of gaps to be filled:

  • Christmas traditions from Ireland / your locality / your family
  • Favourite quotes / sayings about Christmas
  • Lines / short verses from favourite Christmas carols / Irish poets writing about Christmas (eg Seamus Heaney etc)

Favourite Christmas stories (could be Irish folklore or literary short stories) or festive extracts / scenes from Irish novels etc

Christmas crafts: eg simple homemade gift ideas (jewellery? candles?), easy Christmas decorations, table settings etc

Christmas to-do list / schedule / tips (eg date for making cake & pudding etc)

Christmas recipes: we have lots of submissions for Christmas cakes and puddings but would still welcome ideas / recipes for leftover turkey, hearty soups, canapés / hors d’oeuvres, festive starters, Little Christmas recipes, festive breakfasts plus tips on cooking the perfect roast ham and turkey and what trimmings to serve with it (potatoes, sprouts etc)

Please note the following important requests

For extracts from published works: please include name (and, where possible, contact details) of publisher so that we can request permission to reproduce the material

For recipes: please indicate if these recipes came directly from a published source (ie cookbook or magazine) and if so, which publication and from what year

For crafts: please include clear ‘how-to’ instructions and, where possible, a photograph of the finished product (for reference purposes only)
